What to write down between your child's specialist appointments

Specialist appointments often depend on what happened since the last visit. A running log makes the in-between weeks easier to explain.

This guide is for parent journaling and appointment preparation. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, treatment guidance, or emergency monitoring. If something feels urgent, contact your doctor, local health line, or emergency services.

Between specialist appointments, a lot can happen. Some days feel ordinary. Some days bring medication changes, therapy notes, new symptoms, episodes, or questions you meant to ask. Waiting until the night before the visit is when details disappear.

Track changes, not everything

You do not need to write a novel. Focus on changes since the last appointment.

Make a short pre-visit summary

A useful summary should fit on one screen or one page. Group it by category so the clinician can scan quickly.

How Calmemo helps

Calmemo helps families keep the in-between notes as they happen. Before the visit, you can ask for a summary instead of searching through texts and memory. For specific conditions, see how to track seizures for a child doctor and tracking therapy sessions between appointments.
